Où Est Votre Bébé? AKA Dude Where's Your Baby?

A couple of weeks ago, while abroad, I met up with an old friend and her baby.  Given that we were in a nice city, instead of catching up at home, we took the city by storm and spent our days packed full of site-seeing and shopping.  At one point, my friend took her son into the restroom and I kept walking around with the stroller, which may or may not have been laden down with my shopping bags.  As I meandered around the site, another tourist stopped me and said,

"Pardon, où est votre bébé?"

"Umm, with his mother, my friend, in the bathroom."

Did you think I was stealing a stroller or that I forgot my child?  I'm not sure which is worse.

Leaving on a [Many] Jet Plane[s]

H and I are saying hooroo to Australia and moving on to our next home overseas.  This means that I'll have to catch-up on my severe backlog of Australia postings from someplace other than Australia.  It also means that I get to play excited bathroom game in the Dubai Airport.  Excited bathroom game involves guessing what's behind each stall door: toilet or squat hole.

Full points are given for a correct blind guess and 75% of points are awarded for a correct guess based on observing who is exiting the stalls.  Half points are awarded based on observing who is entering the stalls as a lot of times Westerners will reveal the squat locations by gasping and shaking their heads when they push open the stall door, resuming their place in the queue to wait for the next available stall, or simply saying, "this is gross."

Another fun area of play for excited bathroom game is seeing just how many women will emerge from a single squat stall at one time.  I'm not quite sure what they all do in their together.  Maybe assist with holding up one another's voluminous burkas?

Thank goodness we have an eleven hour layover.  I couldn't bear to have a limited timeframe to play in.

So toodaloo kangaroos, I'll check-in once I arrive on the other side of the globe...literally.

Tap Twice

When H was flying cross country yesterday, he went to the restroom in the airport just prior to boarding the flight as he despises using flying port-a-potties. He told me that when he was washing his hands, he saw a condom dispenser mounted on the wall of the bathroom. He didn't really think anything of it at the time since he was not in the market for prophylactics. But a few steps out of the bathroom he got to thinking, 'who IS buying condoms at an airport?' After pondering this for a little while he actually called me to discuss the issue. This bathroom was not a public bathroom as it was after he had passed through security, so anyone using the bathroom was about to board a flight. Is the Australian Airport Authority encouraging safe rendezvous in the men's restroom ('tap' 'tap' with a wide stance in the stall)? Or perhaps they want to make sure that there aren't any children named Boeing in honor of their place of conception? Or maybe the target market for this product is gentlemen returning from the mines who are in search of some professional hourly company? Regardless of the target market, installing condom dispensers in airport bathrooms is just one more classy touch Australia brings to the party.
